AMOUR-S, lorsque l'amour vous fait signe, suivez-le

"When love beckons to you, follow him", is part of the stirring poem The Prophet' by Gibran Khalil Gibran, the great Lebanese-American writer, poet, visual artist, usually referred to as Khalil Gibran. It tells the story of a man searching happiness, ecstasy and goodness. This text, the sharing of its quests and the paths they roam, gave birth to the desire for AMOUR-S...

AMOUR-S explores the loving sentiment through three singularities, three testimonies, three accounts of fragility, three experiences of love. The piece gives life to three loving bodies, transfigured by love, by the passion of love, both simple and great, that lifts us up and, when it's there, becomes an important moment in life, original, one that makes us who we are, literally inhabiting us.

Amorous bodies are transported by the birth of this so particular state, surprising and beautiful, light and powerful at the same time. Initiated to love, they let themselves be carried

Facing an increasingly difficult and violent world, AMOUR-S evokes feverish bodies, with all their complexities, their lyricism, their poetry, their immoderation, their utopia, their devotion, their passion, their nostalgia. All that plural loves, states of love, are carrying. Love - enhanced, idealized, passionate, overwhelming - is a path, destination unknown, plural, generous, open to all. Instinctual, driven, adventurous, it is the opposite of contemporary societies closing and isolating themselves.

AMOUR-S is the delicate breath of the performers, a testimony, a simple and sincere approach, during which they reveal intimate moments, modest, almost secret. With their sensitive bodies and hearts of love, floating, escaping this world. They escape, and liberate us.

AMOUR-S also stems from an encounter between a choreographer, Radhouane, and a composer, pianist, Nicolas Worms. His music joining the three bodies and hearts of love is like an elixir. Together they give us some answers to simple questions.

When love beckons to you, follow him / Though his ways are hard and steep. /

And when his wings enfold you yield to him, / Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. /

And when he speaks to you believe in him, / Though his voice may shatter your dreams / as the north wind lays waste the garden.

(...)

When you love you should not say, / “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.” /

And think not you can direct the course of love, / for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course. /

Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself. / But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:

To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. /
To know the pain of too much tenderness./

To be wounded by your own understanding of love; /

And to bleed willingly and joyfully. /

To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; /

To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; /

To return home at eventide with gratitude; /

And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
