Radhouane El Meddeb - Facing the sea, for tears to turn into laughter After its premiere at the Festival d'Avignon in July this year, followed by a tour of the summer festivals in Zürich, Berlin and Hamburg, Facing the sea, for tears to turn into laughter, will be presented at on Friday 29 September 2017 at Théâtre Jean Vilar in Vitry-sur-Seine (near Paris) as part of the event Les Plateaux de La Briqueterie, Centre de développement chorégraphique du Val-de-Marne. Men and women facing the sea. They watch, address a space that's at the same time real and fictional, in this coastal culture which, from Lebanon to Tunisia, places people in front of this immensity that one celebrates, curses, or dreams... In his latest work, Radhouane El Meddeb is seeking out the spaces between tradition and revolution, between memory and the present, homeland and exile, land and sea.
